Amitrole Challenge
Project type
In Class Challenge
Date
November 2023 - December 2023
Location
New Mexico State University Las Cruces
This challenge was for my ET-426 class, named Machine Elements in Mechanical Design; with a team of 4 we had to create a gear system that was capable of transferring power from a motor to an end shaft. This challenge required that we map out a design that needed 2 transfer points, 2 gear ratios, and a chain or belt drive to rotate a shaft running at 1250 rpm to 300 rpm. As part of a team of 4 we had to 1, design a system that used the least amount of space, 2. design a system that could determine different gears and sprockets at different locations. 3. Calculate the end force present in the system at the bearings holding it together. 4. determine the end parts needed in the design. 5. determine the total cost of the labor, spacing, and parts. 6. put the system together in the least amount of time with no previous practice. 7. Make an excel sheet with the final predicted rpm, force, and location of sprockets, gears, belts, ect... The table present for this project also didn't have a CAD file for it, thus we had to get all the measurements and layout of the holes needed to put the system together. the following photos and descriptions will show the methodology we approached the problem. including the excel sheet that was created for the end. This project allowed us to grow in our use of excel, SolidWorks, and mechanics skills.
